I met a guy online on one of the popular dating sites. The initial phone conversation was okay but he seemed very interested. Or was he really needy? I’m not certain, but he would call me throughout the day and would become upset because I would return his call with a text stating I was really, really busy. Which I really was. I did not have time to talk to him in the middle of the day. I work through lunch and he didn’t seem to understand this concept. He just did not believe me when I said I couldn’t talk.
Nonetheless, I decided to meet him. I asked him if he wanted to go on an evening narrated nature walk and he was more than enthusiastic to go. Prior to going to the event, I asked him to meet me at a pancake house. I would come to find out later that was the wrong place to suggest.
Unfortunately, I was running late due to leaving work late and he was upset. I’m not certain what made him fly off the handle, but he proceeded to tell me that meeting at a pancake house was beneath him. He would never take someone on a first date to a pancake house. He only takes a woman somewhere for fine dining where he spends hundreds of dollars. I told him, “But I love this pancake house. I go here all the time. They have really great pancakes.”
He then re-iterated how gross it was to be at the pancake house, how insensitive I am, and that is probably my problem in dating. All I could do was nod my head in agreement, smile, apologize and acknowledge how he felt. Then he tells me he makes almost $200,000 a year and how dare I ask him to meet him at the pancake house.
Sigh….
Honestly, I don’t know why I entertained him for the 20 minutes I did outside of the pancake house. I was trying to be nice, honest, and open. Personally, I really don’t know what is wrong with meeting at a pancake house for a first meet and greet. Their pancakes are really great! Unfortunately, the date was not.
What do you think? Would you meet at a pancake house? Would you prefer a nice and expensive dinner? Have you encountered someone telling you their salary the first time meeting?
